Accredited Women’s Imaging Center at Davis Hospital Offers SonoCiné for Breast Health

Davis Hospital’s mammography services fully accredited by the American College of Radiology

Oct. 17, 2011

Recent enhancements at the Women’s Imaging Center at Davis Hospital and Medical Center have made it possible to see inside the human body more clearly than ever before and enable physicians on the medical staff to diagnose and treat disease faster and with even greater accuracy. Accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) since 1996, the Women’s Imaging Center at Davis Hospital provides comprehensive breast care, including screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies.

The Women’s Imaging Center at Davis Hospital is now offering Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound to complement mammography for patients with dense breast tissue. Provided through SonoCiné, Davis Hospital is one of only two hospitals in Utah to offer this service. About 40 percent of women have dense breasts, which can make detection of small tumors via mammogram difficult. Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound, a painless exam, works together with mammography for some patients to increase detection in harder-to-see areas.

“Davis Hospital is committed to equipping the highly trained physicians and technicians on our medical staff with advanced technology that will treat patients in the best way possible,” said Mike Jensen, CEO of Davis Hospital and Medical Center. “Our Women’s Imaging Center has been fully accredited since its inception, and the addition of cutting-edge services is further evidence of our care and devotion to patients.”

The ACR awards accreditation for the achievement of high practice standards following a peer-review evaluation and image quality and procedure assessment performed by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. For more information, visit www.acr.org.
