Davis Hospital and Medical Center Receives $7 Million For Renovations and New Technologies
Hospital To Build New Operating Room Suites and Expand Cancer Treatment Program

LAYTON, UTAH – Feb. 17, 2010 – Davis Hospital and Medical Center received approval today from its parent company, IASIS Healthcare, to immediately receive $7 million in funding for new projects and equipment at the hospital. These include adding two new operating room suites and a Linear Accelerator to a cancer treatment program already equipped with a TomoTherapy unit.

The two new operating suites are needed to meet increased patient volume at the hospital as well as offer additional space for its expanding team of medical staff and new surgical technology.

Davis Hospital’s cancer treatment program will expand its one-year-old TomoTherapy program because of the high patient response for it. This technology allows certain types of complex cancers to be treated with localized radiation, which minimizes tissue damage and allows doctors to strategically target tumors.

The new Linear Accelerator will offer a technology similar to TomoTherapy, but it will be used for patients whose cancer does not require TomoTherapy treatment. The Linear Accelerator can treat simpler types of cancer such as skin cancer, alleviate pain and symptoms as well as provide radiation treatment for palliative care – a form of medical care that works to reduce the severity, pain and discomfort associated with a disease.

“Unfortunately, medical research tells us that one in three people will get cancer at some point in their life,” said Davis Hospital CEO Michael Jensen. “By providing these new cancer treatment technologies, we’ll offer our physicians and patients some of the most advanced medical technology to treat a wide variety of conditions – with even greater precision without having to travel outside of the area for this advanced care.”

“With this generous capital infusion by IASIS Healthcare, Davis Hospital and Medical Center continues to grow and meet the expanding need for high-quality healthcare services in this area,” said Jensen. “It’s a major step forward in achieving our ultimate goal of having our patients recover faster and get their lives back to normal as quickly as possible.”
