Robert F. Bitner Award recognizes highest standards in quality patient care
January 11, 2011
Dr. Shay Holley has received the Robert F. Bitner Award honoring physician excellence from Davis Hospital and Medical Center. The employee-nominated award is presented annually to a physician on the medical staff of Davis Hospital who has exhibited the highest standards of quality patient care in fulfillment of his or her Hippocratic Oath.
Dr. Holley, a graduate of Weber State University and the University of Utah School of Medicine, practices in Davis Hospital’s Emergency Department. He and his wife, Erin, are the parents of five children.
“Dr. Holley looks beyond the physical ailment and sees the whole person, treating him or her as he would a family member, which is an invaluable trait in the emergency room,” said Mike Jensen, CEO, Davis Hospital and Medical Center. “Dr. Holley puts patients first and does what is necessary for their health and comfort. This commitment to excellence and people is what we honor with the Bitner award.”
According to Dr. Holley, the people he treats and works with provide the rewards in his job. “Medicine is a people profession, and that’s why I chose it,” he said. “I’m humbled to be honored by my peers in this way, and the award adds a little excitement to my experience as a physician working in the ER.”
Established in 1992, the Bitner award is named for Dr. Robert F. Bitner, a highly respected physician who retired in 1996 after 43 years of practicing medicine in Davis County. Dr. Bitner exemplified kindness, caring and compassion to his patients, the hospital staff and his fellow physicians.
